Canton Carmike Safe After Bomb Threat

Counting today, there have been at least three bomb threats in Canton since June.

No bomb devices were found during a sweep of the Carmike Riverstone 15 Cinemas, the chief of the Canton Police Department told Canton-Sixes Patch this afternoon.
"All the theaters were searched," Chief Bob Merchant said outside the complex. "We feel comfortable that the whole area has been checked."
Earlier today, officers fanned out to Carmike locations in Atlanta, Cartersville, Conyers, Cumming, Hiram, Newnan and Snellville after the movie theater's corporate office received bomb threats from callers who identified themselves as employees of a Carmike vendor, according to WSB-TV and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Theaters in other states also were on alert.
Terrell Mayton, the spokesman for the Columbus, GA, movie chain, could not be reached for comment, but he told the AJC that the threats all concerned "The Expendables 2," an action movie that opened today.
In Canton, yellow police tape surrounded the perimeter of the theater for hours while bomb dogs from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office searched for explosive devices.
"They're just searching for precuationary measures," Merchant said just after noon. "Nothing suspicious has been found."
The Holly Springs Police Department also assisted, he said.
"We're in the process of wrapping things down," Merchant said.
Since June, there have been at least three bomb threats in Canton.
On June 5, a man called from a pay phone in Atlanta and said there was a bomb at the Cherokee County Justice Center. As authorities were searching the building, a second bomb threat to the Cherokee courthouse was received by Cobb County 911.
